It all started at the Marlborough Wine and Food festival, where we met. We inspired by our love of food, wine and the land to create something from the farm.

Making wine from Marathon Downs is a partnership between Jess and Nick. It started as a side project and still remains that way, albeit a very time consuming one.

As a kid growing up at Marathon Downs , I have always had a deep connection with our land as it pretty much runs through my veins.
After a foray in the world of triathlon, home was calling me back. I have been working in the industry since 2017 in various vineyard roles whilst completing my studies in Viticulture. I am now back on the farm helping my parents manage our vineyards. Marathon Downs wine to me is about reflecting the land and showcasing the Awatere.
Every generation on the farm has stamped their mark and making wine is mine!

I moved to Marlborough for a full time winemaking gig, bought a house, got a dog and met the girl... You know how it goes!
My first vintage was in 2009 and I have been in the industry since, either vintage hopping around the globe or in full time roles here in New Zealand.
Marathon Downs Wine to me is all about getting to work alongside Jess, making wines that are exciting and honest, having fun and showing the love that's gone into them.
